Migrant Women’s Vote

Our Chairman Alma Bekturganova Andersen was invited to host a presentation during the conference ‘Migrant Women’s Votes – What is good integration?’ that KULU (The Women’s Developing Countries Committee) arranged in collaboration with the member-based organisation Babaylan. Alma’s presentation addressed how we, as immigrants, learn to navigate the unwritten rules on the Danish labour market. The aim of the presentation was to shed light on some of the cultural challenges that persons of different ethnic backgrounds may experience in the workplace. How unwritten rules – from both the Danish labour market as well as a subject’s own culture – can make it difficult to hold down a job and may contribute to differential treatment in the workplace.

Some of the most important points from the presentation can be found in the article ’Viden til gavn og fornøjelse’ i bladet Folkevirke. 2015, Nr.2-70.årgang. This is a Danish publication; therefore no English version is available.
