The idea of starting a reading club stems from our desire to learn and understand the values, morality, history and language of our new country. Club participants choose a book, which is then read and reflected on. Afterwards, impressions and opinions about the book are exchanged through discussion and dialogue in the following monthly meeting.
It is always incredibly interesting to hear how others, perhaps even those close to you, can have different perceptions and ways of relating to the same text. We often experience that parallels can be drawn from literature and applied to real life experiences and lessons learned. This is frequently the case in our reading club and we enjoy a thorough investigation of each text as well as of the author behind it. The primary language spoke during our reading club sessions is Danish, we do so with the aim of enhancing our linguistic skills and our ability to analyse a text in a more nuanced manner while at the same time improving our sense of self-consciousness when it comes to using the Danish language in a social setting.
