The World’s Women in Denmark organization has founded an award for ethnic minority women, known as the Alma Award. The award goes to women with a different ethnic background than Danish, who are not visibly present in the media, yet still contribute to Danish society through hardwork. The first winner of the award was announced on the 13th of November 2017, marking the ten year anniversary of the election of the first two women with an ethnic background, Yildiz Akdogan and Özlem Cekic, to become part of Danish Parliament in December 2007.
